Albin Gonzalez's Job:
Gonzalez works within the Firelands Regional Medical Center's cancer unit, and is required to work with a wide range of medical personnel in order to assure quality medical care. On his team are radiation therapists, oncologists, and a dosimetrist (a dosimetrist is responsible for calculating a patients radiation dosage). Gonzalez's role within the team is primarily "quality assurance", he makes sure that the equipment is working properly, and if it is not, he fixes it. He also reviews and consults on patient treatment. Occasionally he meets with patients to explain the physics behind the treatments and assures them that the procedures are perfectly safe.
Gonzalez enjoys the challenges that his job brings. The challenges are amplified by the fact that peoples health and lives are in the balance, and there is no room for mistakes. "This is actually taking care of real people. You cannot put people in danger, " he says.
