Becky Thompson-Flagg's Job:
Thompson-Flagg is a Public Outreach Specialist for the American Physical Society. In this role she designs fun presentations and activities for a variety of audiences to get them interested in physics.

My Previous Jobs:
During her doctoral research,  Thompson-Flagg focused on two main projects. The first was studying the ways in which daffodils buckle or crumple. The second was in microflowering. Microflowering occurs when silicon nanowire comes in contact with certain vapors in the presence of gold. When these conditions are met,  highly complex designs emerge,  not unlike liquid crystals or bacteria growth.

Biography:

Thompson-Flagg first became interested in physics during high school,  when,  on the bus,  a class mate suggested that she take a basic physics class. She became hooked immediately. After high school,  she attended Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania,  where she chose physics for its intellectual challenge. After earning her Ph.D. from the University of Texas in Austin,  she,  by luck,  stumbled into a job with the American Physical Society.
