Here's a cool tool for comparing space weather events over a longer time period of three months. View graphs of Proton Flux vs. Time, X-ray Flux vs. Time, Sunspot Numbers, solar flares, and geomagnetic conditions. Students could work in groups to look for patterns in the data quarter-by-quarter. Can they find connections between proton flux levels and sunspot activity? Between proton flux levels and solar flares?

This is the home page for SWPC, the Space Weather Prediction Center that tracks, classifies, and shares data about solar radiation events, including solar flares, coronal mass ejections, sunspot cycles, and issues warnings when Solar Energetic Particle (SEP) values exceed thresholds of radiation considered safe for satellites and astronauts. The Center also tracks geomagnetic storms that could impact Earth GPS systems and space weather that could impair high frequency radio communications or cause blackouts. You'll also find a trove of information about the Sun's structure, solar phenomena, and space weather research. If you want to find high-quality forecasts for aurora events, this is the place.
