This paper is a guide for teachers on how to use energy flow diagrams and energy bar graphs to help students understand processes that occur in the transformation of energy. The author presents visual tools to help students grasp the difference between force and energy and comprehend the meaning of "work" in the context of defined systems. Graphs and diagrams are used to illustrate the discussion. The paper was written for the American Modeling Teachers organization (AMTA). It was authored by P.
