Performance Expectations: Waves
High School Performance Expectations: Physical Science

1) Waves: Information Technology and Instrumentation
HS-PS4-2
Evaluate questions about the advantages of using digital transmission and storage of information.

Evidence Statements Pertaining to this Performance Expectation
  • 1.a.i) Addressing phenomena or scientific theories:: Provide examples of features associated with digital transmission and storage of information (e.g., can be stored reliably without degradation over time, transferred easily, and copied and shared rapidly).
  • 1.b.i) Addressing phenomena or scientific theories: In their evaluation of the given questions, students will describe the stability and importance of the systems that employ digital information as they relate to the advantages and disadvantages of digital transmission and storage of information

2) Waves: Information Technology and Instrumentation
HS-PS4-5
Communicate technical information about how some technological devices use the principles of wave behavior and wave interactions with matter to transmit and capture information and energy.

Evidence Statements Pertaining to this Performance Expectation
  • 2.a) Communication style and format:   When describing how each device operates, students identify the wave behavior utilized by the device....and qualitatively describe how the basic physics principles were utilized in the design to produce this functionality.
  • 2.b) Connecting the DCI's and the CCC'sFor each device, students discuss the real-world problem it solves or need it addresses, and how civilization now depends on the device.
