This Digi Kit integrates physics, engineering, and technology as students use smartphone accelerometers and high-speed video to analyze forces and motion in amusement park rides. Our eBook was inspired by "Roller Coaster Science: Using Smartphones to Measure g-Forces", a 2014 article in The Physics Teacher magazine authored by Rebecca E. Vieyra and Chrystian Vieyra. It aims to provide opportunities for students to engage in scientific field work in a fun, authentic environment. They will gather and analyze data, perform physics calculations with and without guided instructions, share findings with peers, and provide a rationale for their conclusions based on scientific understanding.
