The Astronomy Center has provided educational resources to introductory astronomy educators since 2003. Over the past 20 years, the rapid pace of discovery has rendered some of our linked resources obsolete. Thus, the Astronomy Center will be decommissioned on March 1, 2022. This is a lecture that introduces the HR diagram. The HR diagram is a plot of luminosity in solar units on the Y axis and stellar temperature on the X axis. The HR diagram is a key tool in tracing the evolution of stars. The lecture discusses the location of different stars on the diagram. It also includes a discussion of thermonuclear fusion and the neutrino problem. A quiz follows the lecture.
