The Astronomy Center has provided educational resources to introductory astronomy educators since 2003. Over the past 20 years, the rapid pace of discovery has rendered some of our linked resources obsolete. Thus, the Astronomy Center will be decommissioned on March 1, 2022. Our highest quality resources will be retained on ComPADRE.org.
In this laboratory activity, students investigate properties of lenses and simple telescope construction. Students will describe the nature of convex lenses, measure the focal length of several lenses, describe real and virtual images, and construct a simple refracting telescope. Questions help students probe their understanding of optics.
This activity is part of a larger collection which can be found at http://solar.physics.montana.edu/tslater/plunger/
