The Astronomy Center has provided educational resources to introductory astronomy educators since 2003. Over the past 20 years, the rapid pace of discovery has rendered some of our linked resources obsolete. Thus, the Astronomy Center will be decommissioned on March 1, 2022. Our highest quality resources will be retained on ComPADRE.org.

Improving the College Introductory Astronomy Survey Course for Non-Science Majors Through Active Learning: A Tier I (Introductory) Workshop for Future Instructors

The Center for Astronomy Education Event
March 14, 2008 - March 15, 2008 in UC Berkley

To accomplish this goal, participants will engage in an open and frank discussion of their current or recent experiences as a student.
Workshop participants will also learn how to create productive learning environments by reviewing research on the nature of teaching and learning; setting course goals and objectives; and using interactive lectures, peer instruction, engaging demonstrations, collaborative groups, tutorials, and ranking tasks. The workshops will culminate with participants learning how to put these teaching strategies together into effective learning sequences for the learner-centered classroom.

This workshop is designed for post-docs, graduate students, and undergraduates in astronomy.
