Detail Page

written by the The PhET Project and Michael Gallo
This is a comprehensive problem set (with solutions) for high school physics, developed for use with the PhET simulation Wave on a String.  It is formatted so that users can make responses online, at the same time they are interacting with the simulation.  It assesses understanding of the motion of single and dual pulses/waves generated on a virtual string with fixed or loose end.  Students will be demonstrating comprehension of wave properties, reflection, wave interference, standing waves, and introductory harmonics.  Solutions are detailed, and may be distributed to provide immediate feedback upon completion.  Allow two days if completed in school computer lab.

This resource is part of 2 Physics Front Topical Units.

Topic: Wave Energy
Unit Title: Wave Properties: Frequency, Amplitude, Period, Phase

This is an excellent unit assessment with solutions, developed by a high school teacher to be used with the PhET simulation Wave on a String.  It assesses understanding of fundamental wave properties, interference, standing waves, and beginning harmonics.  It is formatted so that students can make responses online at the same time they are interacting with the simulation. Allow two class periods. NOTE: This resource is available only to registered PhET users, but registration is free and easy.
