Rocket Car on an Inclined Plane Model
written by
Wolfgang Christian, Francisco Esquembre, and Mario Belloni
This simulation displays a rocket car on an inclined plane, which can be set to bounce (elastic collision) when the car reaches the bottom. Use the slider to introduce a positive or negative thrust (up to 4N) and watch the effects on the motion of the car. In addition the car can be dragged to its initial position. An introduction to the simulation is provided, along with questions for both beginners and advanced students.
See Annotations (below) for two editor-recommended tutorials that will help students with both the basic and advanced exercises contained in this model. This item was created with Easy Java Simulations (EJS), a modeling tool that allows users without formal programming experience to generate computer models and simulations. To run the simulation, simply click the Java Archive file below. To modify or customize the model, See Related Materials for detailed instructions on installing and running the EJS Modeling and Authoring Tool. Please note that this resource requires at least version 1.5 of Java (JRE).

The Physics Classroom: Analysis of Situations Involving External Forces
(Editor: Caroline Hall)
Date: 07/08/2010
This interactive tutorial, part of The Physics Classroom chapter on Work and Energy, contains an example that is very similar to the situation presented in the Rocket Car on an Inclined Plane model. It will help students in solving the basic exercise presented in the model.
The Physics Classroom: Inclined Planes
(Editor: Caroline Hall)
