This resource is a collection of activity-based physics tutorials developed by the University of Sydney Physics Education Research group (SUPER).   Designed to be implemented in student-centered cooperative learning environments, the tutorials feature thematic workshops across a broad range of topics for first year physics students.  Cooperative groups start with a fill-in-the-blanks paragraph, developed to engage interaction and provide a non-threatening entry into the work.  This is followed by discussion questions designed to get the students talking and discussing the physics.  A hands-on activity follows, encouraging students to take a short break from sitting, while still continuing to "think physics". There are then two qualitative short-response questions, followed by a problem in which they apply the mathematics.  Solutions, freely available on the web site, are to be distributed to students at the end of each tutorial, giving them immediate feedback.

Covered topics include Mechanics, Properties of Matter, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Waves, Optics, and Quantum Mechanics (including Nuclear and Atomic Physics).  A separate volume discusses the hands-on activities for all topics with descriptions of the apparatus and the physics illustrated in each case.  Each tutorial is freely accessible in pdf format or Word format, to allow teachers to customize materials.
