This interactive problem presents the two-dimensional motion situation of swimming directly across a stream that has a current speed of 10 feet/minute. For beginning students, it requires thought to realize that the current is countering the motion to swim in a straight line. The author helps learners with the conceptual reasoning, then takes them through each step of finding the x components of the two vector velocities to solve the problem. This resource is part of a larger collection of interactive problems developed by the Illinois Physics Education Research Group.
