This lesson introduces the concept of energy through the ideas of conservation and the ability to run machines. A series of both qualitative and quantitative examples are used to explore different forms of energy and transformations between them. Starting with and focusing on mechanical energy, examples regarding chemical energy, electrical energy, and heat are included. This is part of the larger site "From Stargazers to Starships", and includes a link to the Energy chapter in this online text.
