This resource is an animation-based tutorial for introductory physics on the topics of amplitude, frequency, period and phase, angular frequency, and wave velocity. It was developed to promote understanding of the basic mathematics associated with simple harmonic motion, focusing on trigonometric functions that will serve as a foundation for future studies. As students proceed through a self-paced set of multiple-choice questions, immediate feedback is provided. A comprehensive self-test can be found at the end. Being self-contained, this resource could appropriately be assigned as homework.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Internet Explorer is the recommended browser for viewing this resource. Problems have been reported with the animations when using Firefox. This resource is part of a larger set of interactive physics tutorials created by the University of Ontario-Guelph. See Related Materials for a link to the full collection.
