Cooperative group problem solving has been shown to promote learning that lasts. The teacher acts as learning guide or coach facilitating and interceding only when needed. Students assume the role of negotiator and "persuader" convincing each other of the value of one solution path over another. Closely aligned to inquiry, cooperative group learning can impact student learning for the long term.
