SLICE: Summer Leadership Institute for Computational Education in Physics
June 23 - 27, 2025 @ University of Wisconsin - River Falls
A week-long workshop to grow and sustain a network of experienced computational physics educators who will develop, refine, implement, and advocate for computational teaching and learning methods in physics. We will engage in developing diverse instructional designs, course materials, evidence-based pedagogies, and assessment strategies that will help coherently achieve a wide variety of computational physics learning goals.
Who should attend: Faculty who have previously participated in a half-day, full-day, or week-long PICUP workshop. Note that because this is an NSF grant funded project, we can only accept applicants from institutions in the United States.
Applications: Applications are now open and being reviewed on a rolling basis! Click here to apply. Once applications are accepted, registration forms will be sent.
Registration: $300, includes room for 4 nights, all meals, and a shuttle from MSP (Minneapolis - St. Paul) airport to River Falls, WI. Does not include flight. A limited number of travel subsidies up to $500 will be available.
Draft agenda:
Potential discussion topics:
- Assessment strategies in the era of LLMs
- Computational physics learning outcomes for physics majors
- Department level change at large/medium/small institutions
- Assessing departmental integration of computation
- Others as proposed by participants
Potential mini-workshop topics:
- Lessons from computer science education
- Materials for a lower-level / upper-level computational physics course
- Materials for individual upper-level physics courses
- Materials for a quantum computing course
- Others as proposed by participants
