To participate in these tutorials, faculty are urged to arrive in the early afternoon of Saturday, July 14.
Energize Undergraduate Physics Courses with Computation!
Who should apply: All physics faculty, especially those who have not yet attempted to integrate computation into their undergraduate physics courses.
For physics faculty with little or no experience with computational methods and programming languages, there will be a series of optional tutorial sessions offered throughout the day on Sunday, July 16, that will serve to introduce inexperienced faculty to the fundamentals of using a computer to solve basic physics problems. These tutorials are intended to get faculty up to speed on programming and computational basics so that they can confidently participate in the larger workshop that will commence on the morning of Monday, July 16.
In the week-long workshop, participants, with the assistance of the workshop coordinators, will develop a viable, personalized plan for integrating computation into their undergraduate physics course(s) to be implemented in the upcoming academic term.
- Local expenses will be covered for all accepted participants.
- A limited number of travel scholarships may be available to applicants whose home institutions are unable to provide supportive travel funding. The scholarships will provide partial or full reimbursement of travel costs to and from the workshops.
It is expected that there will be more applicant interest than available positions for the workshop; thus, interested applicants are encouraged to apply at their earliest convenience. Applicants will be notified in the Spring of 2018 if they have been accepted to participate. To apply, follow the link at the bottom of this page.
