The STP TemperatureMeasurementLJ program simulates the exchange energy between a demon and a system of particles interacting via the Lennard-Jones potential. The program shows the kinetic temperature of the system as a function of time, and the energy distribution of the demon. The purpose of this simulation is to understand why the demon acts as an ideal thermometer The default system is a one-dimensional ideal gas of N=64 particles in a box with linear dimension 30 and initial kinetic energy per particle of 1.0. Additional states and parameters can be specified using the Display|Switch GUI menu item.
STP TemperatureMeasurementLJ is part of a suite of Open Source Physics programs that model aspects of Statistical and Thermal Physics (STP). The program is distributed as a ready-to-run (compiled) Java archive. Double-clicking the stp_TemperatureMeasurementLJ.jar file will run the program if Java is installed on your computer. Additional programs can be found by searching ComPADRE for Open Source Physics, STP, or Statistical and Thermal Physics.
Please note that this resource requires
at least version 1.5 of Java.
