This updated edition (2016) of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success explores decades of research into mindset theory, the idea that successful outcomes are linked to an individual's expectation and/or belief in their own ability to succeed and meet challenges. The author, Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we perceive our talents and abilities. According to Dweck, people with a fixed mindset -- those who believe that abilities are fixed -- are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset -- those who believe that abilities can be developed through consistent effort and personal determination. In this edition, Dweck introduces a phenomenon she calls "false growth mindset" and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset. She also expands the mindset concept beyond the individual, applying it to the cultures of groups and organizations. The book explains mindset theory, discusses the relevant supporting research, and gives many examples of how to adopt a growth mindset in one's own life.
