Main Document

STP Central Limit Theorem Program

written by Harvey Gould, Jan Tobochnik, Wolfgang Christian, and Anne Cox

The CentralLimitTheorem program simulates a random additive process to illustrate that the distribution of the sum is a Gaussian, independent of the probability distribution of the random variables as long as its variance is finite.

CentralLimitTheorem is part of a suite of Open Source Physics programs that model aspects of Statistical and Thermal Physics (STP). The program is distributed as a ready-to-run (compiled) Java archive. Double-clicking the stp CentralLimitTheorem.jar file will run the program if Java is installed on your computer. Additional Open Source Physics programs for Statistical and Thermal Physics can be found by searching ComPADRE for Open Source Physics, STP or Statistical and Thermal Physics.
