Is there a way to turn off dinging sound

I don't know what I am doing wrong, but the Tracker tool keeps playing a dinging sound that sounds like an error. Is there some way to determine what the error is? Can I disable the sound?

Thanks. This tool looks great! Exactly what I am looking for to use in my high school class.

A ding does indicate some kind of error.  Does it ding repeatedly without stopping?

Try this: open the Message Log (Help|Diagnostics|Message Log) and set the level to ALL. Then when it dings do you see any messages that might tell you what is failing?

Thanks for the reply. I opened the log window as you suggested, and I will definitely keep this in mind next time. I didn't get any messages when the dinging sounds were happening, though.

I have been trying to fit a curve to some data obtained from a video using the analyze tool. I'll try to record what I am doing more precisely next time.

The dinging was occurring when I was trying to adjust the numbers to make the curve fit the data. Every time I clicked on a number or the plus/minus 10% arrows, the tool would ding. The numbers would move most of the time, though. There were no messages in the log about the dings.

I did have difficulty removing one of the plots that I didn't want in the window. Maybe that had something to do with it.

In general, I had a video of a pendulum. I was trying to use the angle as a function of time, instead of x and y. It was very difficult to get theta to appear, and difficult to keep x or y from showing up. The function with the parameters to adjust did have theta and t in it as expected.

I won't have time to look at it for a few weeks, but I will have some time in the next months to explore everything I can about your Tracker for my high school students to use in May and June. Thank you so much for making this.

Scott, I determined that the dinging happens when you have failed to autofit a function and then change the parameters of that function manually. This is a bug that will be fixed in the next release (soon), but in the meantime you can stop the dinging by changing the fit to a line, checking the autofit box, then unchecking the autofit box and going back to the real function you want to fit manually. This works because autofitting never fails for a line--it's the failure that starts the dinging.

Hope this helps!  Doug

Scott and others, I fixed this issue and have posted another updated "beta" tracker.jar on Tracker's home page.  The link is in the Recent Tracker Versions section part way down on the left. Just copy the jar into your existing Tracker home (shown in About Tracker) and either rename it to tracker.jar to replace the existing, or choose it as the preferred jar in the Preferences.  Doug
