I am using Tracker with an on-line class of 13 students. The video files which I give them are relatively short mp4 of 1-2 MB. I have them upload their trk files to Canvas (the content delivery platform which we are using, similar to Blackboard). My computer is Windows 10. The students have various operating systems. We are all running Tracker 5.1.5.
Sometimes I can load their trk files without issue, but very often Tracker hangs while loading. The issue is not consistent. If I close Tracker using Task Manager, I can usually open the trk file after one or more attempts. It does not seem to depend on whether I ask Tracker to locate the original mp4.
Hi Durig, in your last sentence, do you mean it hangs when the video can't be found and asks if you wish to find it? Or does it also occur when the video path is correct?
More questions: does each student download your video and analyze that file? Have your students had this hanging issue?
Have you tried having students save their work in TRZ project files instead of TRKs? I'd be interested to know if you have the same issue. Every TRZ has it's own video (usually a copy of the original), so they are bigger than TRK files but at 1-2 MB it's maybe not an issue. And if students are only analyzing a short segment of the video they can save only the videoclip frames, add some quality documentation and end up with a really portable project to turn in.

Since I don't know where the students saved the mp4's (which I posted on Canvas), and because I asked them to submit trk files, and because I save student submissions (downloaded from Canvas as zip and then extracted) to a different directory, Tracker can never find the original mp4, unless I tell it where to look.
I asked the students to submit TRZ, and I was able to view them without issue.
