How to estimate distance covered by and speed of object in tracker 4.80?

One of my students is using tracker 4.80. However, she (and we) have not been able to estimate the distance covered by an object and the speed at which it has traveled. We are really novices in using tracker or any other video tracking software. Could anybody help us please?

One way to estimate distance traveled is to use a tape measure (Tracks|New|Measuring Tools|Tape Measure menu). And you can determine the time between two frames by setting the video player readout to show time (click the readout and choose Display|Time from the popup menu). With the time and distance data you can estimate speed.
Of course, for the distances to be meaningful you must calibrate the video. For more information, see Help|Getting Started.
It may be just as easy to create a point mass and manually track the object if only a few frames are involved. You can set the step size to a large number to skip intermediate frames (click the step size button on the video player and choose Other from the popup menu).
