This item is an interactive Java simulation for introductory students that explores two types of light reflection.  The user controls surface color and texture to explore specular reflection (light reflected from a smooth surface at a definite angle) and diffuse reflection,  produced by rough or irregular surfaces.

This item is part of a larger collection of materials on optics and microscopy developed by the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory.  See Related items on this page for links to the full index of resources on Light and Color and a full tutorial on Light Reflection by the same authors.

Please note that this resource requires Java.
