Determining the Extragalactic Distance Scale

In this activity students find a number of Cepheid variables in the galaxy M100. They then use their periods, average apparent magnitudes, and the Period-Luminosity relationships to determine the distance to M100. Then students can estimate the Hubble constant to find the age of the universe.
