This website, containing information from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, provides projects and activities for advanced astronomy students.  In this section, students read a tutorial on the classification of stars according to their spectra. It sets a theoretical foundation in which the production of spectral lines, through mechanisms of absorption and emission of photons, is explained. It also introduces the possibility of classifying stars using their temperature, obtained from the Black Body Radiation curve of a star.

A follow up exercise teaches students about dual peak wavelengths in multiple star systems.
