Beyond Diffraction: Extending Labs for Student Autonomy
written by
Dustin Shipp and Clayton Williams
This lab manual presents an optical diffraction laboratory, redesigned to stimulate student autonomy. This lab is completed in a single class period within the first two weeks of the course. The purpose is to familiarize students with using light diffraction and interference as measurement tools and to introduce error analysis techniques. This experiment is also one of multiple springboards to propel students into the rest of the semester in which they will design and perform their own experiment, possibly based interference and diffraction.
