The trouble with numerical derivatives
written by Richard Gass
This Mathematica Notebook explores the effect of noise in data when performing numerical analysis. The numerical derivative of a set of data is always less smooth than the data itself because any noise is magnified by the derivative. Ways to improve the analysis are also illustrated.
