|Description:||The HORIZONS Scholarship Program encourages women to pursue careers related to U.S. national security and defense and to provide development opportunities to women already working in these fields. Since 1990, HORIZONS has made 121 awards of $233,388.
The scholarship competition is open to rising juniors and above, including graduate level, to further educational objectives of women who are U.S. citizens already employed in or planning careers in defense or national security. The scholarship focuses on selected fields such as cyber security, government relations, engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, business, law, international relations, political science, military history, and economics.

Additional Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria. No exceptions will be considered.
* Be currently enrolled at an accredited university or college, either full-time or part- time.
* Junior level undergraduates (60+ credits) and graduate students are eligible.
* Demonstrate interest in pursuing a career related to national security or defense.
* Demonstrate financial need.
* Recipients of past awards may apply for future financial assistance.
Last year's range was from $4,000-$20,000. Awards will be based on academic achievement, participation in defense and national security activities, field of study, work experience, statements of objectives, recommendations, and financial need. Awards are made without regard to race, creed, color, or religion. Women In Defense reserves the right to revise, suspend or discontinue this program without notice.
