| Description: | The University of TX - Pan American (UTPA) is now accepting applications for the Robert Noyce Scholarship. This scholarship aims to address the acute shortage of highly-qualified and certified high school chemistry and physics teachers in the South Texas region by enabling Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) majors to obtain a BS in Physical Science or BS in Physics or BS in Chemistry degree with 8-12 teaching certification. Eligibility Criteria: A student who wishes to apply for the Robert Noyce Scholarship must satisfy the following criteria: *is a U.S. citizen, national or permanent resident *is an undergraduate student majoring in a field of science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). *is a junior or senior at the start of the scholarship award. *has a GPA of 3.0 or better in Math and Science and an overall GPA of 2.75 or better. *completes an interview with the Robert Noyce Scholarship Committee. *pursue a STEM degree leading to teaching certification in 8-12 Physical Science or 8-12 Physics/Math or 8-12 Chemistry at UTPA. *be willing to teach in a high-need school district in Texas. |

| Other Comments: | While there isn't a clear residency requirement, you must e willing to teach a high-need district in TX and you'd need to be a student at UTPA in order to apply for the scholarship. Benefits Scholarship support up to cost of attendance (tuition/fees, room/board, books/supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses). Noyce scholars will obtain their STEM degree plus teaching certification for FREE. Paid summer internships and travel to science education conferences. Scholars will be issued a laptop with Wi-Fi capability for educational and teaching purposes. Expectations of Noyce Scholars Enroll fulltime (12 credit hours per semester) & complete a STEM degree leading to teaching certification in 8-12 Physical Science or 8-12 Physics/Mathematics or 8-12 Chemistry. Maintain a GPA of 2.75 or better. Please see website for more details. Be an active member of the UTPA-NSF scholars association. Take the teaching certification exams(Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities and 8-12 Physical Science or 8-12 Physics/Math or 8-12 Chemistry) before completing degree Render 2 years of teaching for every year of scholarship.
