| Description: | The mission of The National Society of High School Scholars Foundation is to support education in the form of scholarships targeted to underrepresented minorities who express interest in STEM career majors--Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. the Foundation also seeks to support education in the form of scholarships and programs for underserved students in all fields. The Foundation was established by Claes Nobel, a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes, to fulfill this mission. The Foundation recognizes the need to produce more graduates with knowledge and skills in the STEM disciplines in order to meet the competitive challenges of the technology-driven global economy of the 21st century. We wish to contribute to this effort to steer students to become qualified workers in these areas in order to improve the quality of life for all. Purpose of STEM Scholarships A particular goal is to help increase the representation of African-American, Hispanic, Native American Indian, and females in STEM careers and in STEM education, where these groups are severely underrepresented. The The Foundation provides STEM scholarships for these targeted groups in order to help reduce financial barriers for those with academic and leadership potential and the desire to pursue STEM careers. We recognize that in order to increase diversity in the technology workforce, we must increase diversity in technology undergraduates. The Foundation awards STEM scholarships to applicants who are pursuing a degree in, or closely related to, one of the following STEM disciplines: Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering Biosciences/Pre-med Chemical Engineering Chemistry Civil Engineering Cognitive, Neural, and Behavioral Sciences Computer and Computational Sciences, including Statistics and Accounting Electrical Engineering Geosciences Information Sciences Materials Science and Engineering Mathematics Mechanical Engineering Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering Nuclear Engineering Oceanography Operations Research Physics Teaching in STEM areas |
