| Description: | Through the generosity of donors to the SEG, there are more than 50 different scholarships. Half are unrestricted scholarships; the rest have specific donor intentions that include consideration for major/minor, university, career intention, involvement in student activities, year of study, or particular research field. The SEG has posted a preliminary abbreviated list and the list may not represent all scholarships available. These scholarships are directed toward students pursuing a career in applied geophysics or closely related field (including physics). Eligibility - These are merit based scholarships; general eligibility requirements are: 1. A student must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Attending high school and planning to enter college next fall; (b) An undergraduate or graduate college student whose grades are above average. 2. A student must intend to pursue a college curriculum directed toward a career in applied geophysics or a closely related field, such as geosciences, physics, geology, or earth and environmental sciences. |

| Other Comments: | Please note there are a wide variety of scholarships available so the requirements vary depending on the scholarship. The scholarship committee matches students to the scholarships. There are several scholarships with state requirements. Scholarships range from $500 to $14,000 USD per academic year; average awards are approximately $2,500. The number of scholarships available depends chiefly upon the number of sponsors and the amounts they contribute. For the 2010-2011 academic year, the Foundation awarded scholarships to 118 students totaling US $434,150. Scholarships were sent to universities in 18 different countries. Scholars represented 26 different citizenships.
