Description: The Gates Millennium Scholars Program was established in 1999 with a 1.6 grant to the United Negro College Fund from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to provide outstanding African-American, American Indian/Alaska native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic/Latino American students with an opportunity to complete their undergraduate education.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program is a leadership program, and an the scholarship covers the student's UNMET need, and awards are determined by GMS based on financial need.

1. Student (Nominee)
2. Nominator (Educator writing about the student's academic record)
3. Recommender (Person writing about the student's community service and leadership activites)
