| Description: | The SAO (Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory) Summer Intern Program is a nine or ten week long program, depending on the availability of Harvard housing. In 2005 the program will run from Sunday, June 12 through Saturday, August 20. The program is funded by the National Science Foundation and the Smithsonian Institution. Undergraduate students interested in a career in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, or related physical sciences are encouraged to apply for the 2005 program. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents (Green Card holders), and must be enrolled in a degree program leading to a bachelors degree. Seniors who will graduate in June of 2005 (or before) are not eligible. Potential areas of research include: *Observational and Theoretical Cosmology *Extragalactic and Galactic Astronomy *Interstellar Medium and Star formation *Laboratory Astrophysics *Supernovae and Supernova Remnants *Planetary Science *Solar and Stellar Astrophysics Interns work with an SAO/Harvard staff member on a research project for the duration of their stay. There are also field trips, discussion evenings, and a summer colloquia series. Applications for the 2005 program must be mailed to us (postmarked) by February 7th, 2005. |
