The NSF REU site is led by the Bioengineering Professor Victor Rodgers and includes 16 other professors from seven different departments who offer a variety of research topics in the general field of bioengineering, ranging from genomic, proteomic and metabolic patterns in cells to biomedical imaging. The students will be lectured on a range of research and career issues, and spent time in the professors' research labs gaining hand-on experience. Some of the available exciting research topics include cell membrane electromechancis, microfluidic devices for bacterial sensing, construction of nanoliter-volume NMR micocoil probes, impact of metabolic stress on bacterial surface chemistry, and video observation of biological systems.
