The National Weather Center (NWC) in Norman, Oklahoma, houses world-class weather organizations ranging from research to operations. Research topics in our REU include various types of severe weather, tornadoes (of course!), numerical weather prediction, weather radar, climatology, social sciences related to meteorology, and more. Participants rank their top projects, are paired with a mentor, and conduct a short research project during the 10-week program. By the end of the program they write a paper and give a presentation on their results. The research is supplemented with tours, field trips, networking opportunities, and lots of career exposure to help participants find the ideal career for them. Housing, travel allowance, professional conference travel allowance, and a stipend are provided.
