|Description:||The Arkansas Center for Space & Planetary Sciences at the University of Arkansas sponsors a summer research program for undergraduate science and engineering majors.
The center involves faculty from several departments and two colleges. It offers world class research facilities and cutting edge research projects. It houses the only large scale planetary simulation chamber in the country. Center faculty and students work together on some of the most exciting projects of the 21st. century.
Areas of research include the following: geological processes on planetary surfaces, astronomical processes, instruments and engineering for possible use on Mars, Mars: near-surface processes and biological investigations, and characterization of near-earth asteroids.
An active program of field trips is planned each year covering the major disciplines involved in the planetary sciences (expenses paid by program). A weekly seminar series features center researchers and external speakers from industry and from government.
Travel support is also allotted for each participant to attend a national or regional conference in the following academic year to present the results of their summer research.
Additionally, the program offers an active social program. Northwest Arkansas is a fast growing area with diverse entertainment options, good living standards and a wonderful geography.
