| Description: | The NSF REU Engineering the Grid Summer Program provides research opportunities for enthusiastic students that are willing to explore topics related to energy storage, semiconductor power electronics, solar and photovoltaic systems, processing issues related to nanofabrication of solar cells, and fabrication of optoelectronics and nanodevices. The faculty team is multidisciplinary from different departments in the college of engineering, and college of textiles at NC State University. Each student will work under a close-coupled mentorship of a faculty and a graduate student, and be exposed to multidisciplinary academic settings at NC State, in Raleigh. Each participant will have a predetermined research project, chosen during the selection process, and will be responsible for completing the project within the allotted time. Students will also have the opportunity to interact with high school students and teachers as mentors. At the end of the program, the students will present their research results at a joint general symposium on campus. In addition to the research, the students will also participate in a series of organized seminars, career information, industry visits, power and utility facilities, in additional to recreational activities. |

| Additional Information: | Engineering the Grid REU site will accept web applications for the 2013summer starting in Mid-November and closing on March 10 (midnight EST). Students will be notified by April 1st. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents of U.S. territory and possessions. We especially welcome applications from women and minorities.
