| Description: | QUICK FACTS: Our REU program is different from others around the country in that the goal is to arrive in enough time to allow adequate participation to complete enough research to merit co-authorship of a scientific paper. Experience has shown that an 8-week program cannot easily achieve this goal, and that an 11-week experience is the minimum stay. To that end, housing here at UF for the domestic REU program is made available for the longest period of time over the summer that we can arrange – approximately 5/10 to 8/10. D O M E S T I C R E U: DOMESTIC STIPEND: $3,500 TRAVEL: $300 including fall meeting CREDIT: one credit of research through the UF honors program HOUSING: free housing. I N T E R N A T I O N A L R E U: For the international program (sites in France will be determined very shortly), the duration is 12 weeks, but because the French, like most of Europe, take a break in August, students must arrive in very early May to start their research. We make arrangements with the international REU students' home universities to accommodate this early release from Spring term classes. FRANCE STIPEND: $4,200 ALSO INCLUDED: 1) free housing in France 2) registration for one credit of research through the UF honors program 3) Medivac insurance 4) $500 toward participation in pre-departure and post-program activities (required) 5) qualification for greatly-reduced "student" meal prices at French university cafeterias. |
