| Description: | The 2012 Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site on Multifunctional Nanomaterials at West Virginia University (WVNano NSF REU) offers a unique combination of multidisciplinary research, educational programs, and fun team-building activities (rock climbing, white-water rafting, etc). Participants will be involved in ongoing research programs in the field of nanotechnology with applications to environmental monitoring, early disease detection, proteomic/genomic identification, and energy efficiency. Participants receive a stipend of $5000, some travel expenses, and room/board in exchange for 10-weeks (May 21-July 27) of cutting edge research in faculty laboratories across the WVU campus. Applicants should be rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior undergraduate students majoring in science, engineering, or mathematics. Underrepresented minorities and women from West Virginia and Appalachia (which stretches from northern Mississippi up to southern New York) are especially encouraged to apply.
