| Description: | The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University hosts a ten-week summer research experience program for undergraduate students. The program is highly interdisciplinary and involves research in the area of micro- and nano-material science and technology. The program involves various academic departments such as Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Polymer and Fiber Engineering, Physics, and Biosystems Engineering. The REU site at Auburn University provides research experiences for a diverse group of undergraduate participants from four-year institutions and community colleges. REU participants will be paired with research faculty mentors to work in their laboratories on projects focused on micro/nano-structured materials, therapeutics, and devices. Research projects will be interdisciplinary in nature and have a strong focus on micro and nano-material science and technology. Specific topics will include materials synthesis and characterization, biomaterials, micro/nano particle formation processes, nanomechanics of thin films, carbon-nanotubes, inorganic nano-rods, MEMS, nanoparticulate systems and micro films for drug delivery, nanofibers yarns and fabrics, nanoparticle thin films, and others. Students will participate as a group in weekly seminars and workshops that allow cross cultivation of the individual research experience as well as address professional development. Several social events and outings are planned throughout the ten week period. |
