| Description: | The Department of Physics in cooperation with the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center at Penn State, Center for Nanoscale Science, provides the opportunity to participate in frontier materials physics and materials research (Chemistry, Biology, Materials Science, Engineering Disciplines) at a major research facility. Summer projects are drawn from larger areas of current theoretical and experimental research in condensed matter physics and interdisciplinary materials science. In partnership with the Physics Department, the center offers additional summer projects involved in research on understanding the behavior of materials on the nano-scale. Each research project is designed to enable undergraduate students to participate in real scientific research. During the ten-week program, students experience the challenge and excitement of a career in research. In addition, students are able to acquire valuable skills and join in a variety of extra-curricular activities. |
