| Description: | The Arkansas Center for Space and Planetary Sciences sponsors a NASA supported summer research program for undergraduate science and engineering majors. Students in chemistry, physics, biology, electrical engineering, geosciences and mechanical engineering are especially encouraged to apply. In this ten week program, students will carry out research in the center in one of the following areas: * Geological processes on planetary surfaces * Mission design and engineering * Mars: Near-surface processes and biological investigations * Planetary atmospheres * Surface processes on asteroids and meteorites * Asteroid sample return An active program of field trips is planned each year. Participants may visit a regional aerospace company and NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. A weekly seminar includes center research and external speakers from industry and from government. Also, in addition to the stipend, participants will receive $500 in travel support to attend a national or a regional conference in the following year to present their research. |
