Description: The SRC, a national facility funded by the National Science Foundation, uses an electron storage ring to provide synchrotron light as a tool for doing scientific research. Participants in the program will work directly with researchers on a hands-on project chosen from a variety of science fields. Examples of previous projects include ultrananocrystalline diamond, studies of the physics of Free Electron Lasers, exotic low dimensional materials, studies of molecules found in the interstellar medium, biological disease research, atomic photo-ionization, and environmental problems such as the effects of global warming on algae. Mentors, graduate students, SRC staff, and other scientists will serve as a resource to students as they complete their research projects.
