| Description: | Undergraduates in Bigelow Laboratory's REU Program spend ten weeks at the Laboratory conducting independent research with guidance from a scientist mentor. Through both a collective and individual process, students identify a research question, develop a proposal, conduct their proposed work, prepare an abstract and poster, and present their research at a formal student symposium at the close of the program. REU students are immersed in the Bigelow community and participate in seminars, field trips, Laboratory social events, and more. Each REU student is placed, based on mutual research interests, in the lab of a Senior Research Scientist. Research areas include the marine microbial food web, ocean biogeochemistry, optical oceanography, remote sensing, sensory biology, climate change and fisheries oceanography. |
