| Description: | Come SURF the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The program is a 11-week Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship that provides undergraduate students hands-on research experience in physics, materials science, engineering, computer science, nanotechnology, neutron research, applied mathematics, and other physical science disciplines. We are located just outside Washington, DC. NOTE: Another NIST SURF program exists on NIST's Boulder, CO campus. In addition to the $4500 stipend, the Fellowship will travel and housing allowances as necessary. Applications for participation in the SURF program are only accepted from colleges or universities, and not from individual students so make sure to work with your school to get your application in on time. Student Eligibility Criteria --Considering pursuing a graduate degree in a technical field --recommending a GPA of 3.0/4.0, or better. --Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident -- Attending a U.S. academic institution --Two letters of recommendation into the program by professors or department chairs -- a copy of the student transcript, -- and letter of intent/personal statement - describe your technical interests and why you would like to be in the program. |
