Description: The National Institute of Standards and Technology offers an 11-week Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program providing hands-on research experience in Chemical Science and Technology, Electronics and Electrical Engineering,  Information Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, and Physics.

The NIST site is in Boulder, Colorado. A program also exists at NIST's campus in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

The Fellowship will include a stipend, and travel and housing allowances. Note that applications for participation in the SURF program are accepted only from colleges and universities, not from individual students.

Student eligibility criteria:
-- considering pursuing a graduate degree in a technical field
-- recommended GPA of 3.0/4.0, or better
-- must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident
-- must be attendig a U.S. academic institution.
-- two letters of recommendation by professors or department chairs
-- a copy of the student transcript
-- letter of intent/personal statement
Stipend: $4,500
