| Description: | This is a 10-week REU program in materials research involving faculty in physics, mathematics, geology, and chemistry. Students work with facilities such as our class 10000 clean room, several atomic force microscopes, two scanning electron microscopes, a spectroscopic ellipsometer, a powder x-ray diffractometer, and an electron-beam lithography tool. JMU is a primarily undergraduate institution so all students work in teams directly supervised by faculty members. This makes this a good opportunity for students early in their careers to try out research in a setting in which they will be closely mentored and establish a close working relationship with a faculty member and other undergraduates. (We are currently awaiting word on both internal and external funding for summer 2009.) |
