| Description: | The Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Pervasive and Mobile Computing is a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded research program with two sites respectively at Auburn University and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Each REU site hosts eight undergraduate students (with a total of sixteen) for ten weeks during the summer. The interns are initiated to research under the guidance of mentors who are faculty members in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. The interns collaborate with their mentors and are expected to contribute to the advance of pervasive and mobile computing. Major objectives are to promote interests in pervasive and mobile computing and develop the research skills of the students. Women, minorities, and students from "undergraduate" institutions are especially encouraged to apply. Mobile and pervasive computing is about Marc Weiser's vision: "The most profound technologies are those that disappear. They weave themselves into the fabric of everyday life until they are indistinguishable from it." Mobile and pervasive computing is about using computing in every aspect of our lives while being completely unaware of its existence. This REU site at Auburn University invites undergraduate students to collaborate in the development of this technology, to propose new applications, and to explore new capabilities. |
